This Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Ri Tour is journey to the World Highest Mountain, Mt. Everest along with exciting Gokyo lakes and Gokyo Ri. Upon your arrival at TIA (Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu), our representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal and then you will be taken to your respective hotel. After the check-in process, you can rest if you are too tired. You will also be provided a welcome dinner hosted by our institution. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, we will start a guided tour to some historical attractions in Kathmandu (Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. In the evening we take you for a short tour to Thamel, which is the main tourist hub in Kathmandu. We will make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money exchange, supermarket, gear shops and other necessary things you might need for your trip. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.

We will take an early morning flight to Lukla (the gateway to the Everest trek). After the dramatic 30 min flight, enjoying the beautiful view of the hills and mountains, we land in Lukla, where we meet with our complete crew and proceed with our trek towards Phadking. After about a 4 hours trek we reach a small village of Phadking. You will stay overnight at a local lodge.

Namche Bazaar is the Sherpa Capital, so here we experience the sherpa culture. Also, we hike around the Bazaar, to the top of Namche, and visit the museums, experience the breathtaking panoramic view of AmaDablam, Everest, Thamserku, and other mountains. Also, we can view the stunning sunrise and sunset of the Khumbu peaks. You will stay overnight at a local lodge.

Today, we leave Namche Bazaar with constant ups and downs on the way. You will observe Himalayan pheasants, musk deer, and Himalayan Thars on the way. We then descend to Kuanjuma. You will get a glimpse of Ama Dablam from Sansa. In this way, our path descends to Dudhkoshi Khola. After that, we need to climb uphill through rhododendron forests before reaching our final destination Phortse. We will stay overnight at Phortse on that day.

Your path will descend through the trees to Deboche. There, a small and atmospheric Nunnery is well worth a visit. The path will continue along the river valley amongst the trees. There you can observe the stunning views of the Ama Dablam when the path gradually climbs. There are numerous fantastic photo opportunities because of scenic sights. There is a very interesting monastery set in trees at the top of the village. The village of Dingboche is set in a stunning position where it is surrounded by high peaks. They grow barely here in summer months. It is possibly the highest altitude at which the crop is grown.

Today we have one more acclimatization day. After breakfast, we go on a small excursion. A 3-4 hours hike to Nagerjun hill, where you can experience the panoramic view of east and west lobushe, kangtega and AmaDablam. We return to Dingboche, you have free time to rest and relax. We will be preparing our trip for the next day accordingly.

After breakfast, we trek towards Lobuche. We pass through or above Pheriche, a lonely but picturesque village. After reaching Dhugla, we climb a steep 30- to 60-minute up. From here, it’s a mostly flat hike to Lobuche. Lobuche is a small village where you can observe cultural as well as natural beauty. Overnight stay will be at Lobuche.

Today is the day when we will get to the base camp. So, we begin the trek towards Gorakshep. The extend from Lobuche to Gorakshep usually takes two to three hours. However, you will gain almost 300 meters in altitude. Passing the trails of ChangriNup, Pumori, Changri we reach Gorakshep. Gorakshep is the townsite of Everest base camp. Here, we suit up, strip down our day packs, and head towards our goal, Everest base camp.

We will follow the path as down as Dhughla. We will then take a small path that contours around a steep and fairly exposed hillside. There are again fabulous views and once the corner is reached you can see many different sights. They include a beautiful turquoise glacial lake, Cholate Tso, etc. You then ascend gradually to the small hamlet of Dzong La. On the way, you will also pass by Kalapatter. This will be quite a short and easy day after the exertions of the last few days. The overnight stay will be at Dzongla.

You need to gradually climb up towards the foot of the pass. You will encounter snow and rock dependent on the time of the year. The ascent becomes much steeper on the large blocks. There are numerous small cairns to follow. Similarly, the views when the snowfield is reached are amazing. The glacier ascends through a stunning high valley. You will then reach the high point of the pass. After climbing to cross a shallow grassy saddle, you start a plunge to Thangnak Kharka. The overnight stay will be at this place.

We ascend on a hill and enjoy the scenic views of the various majestic mountains. The valley widens when the path passes through a Chorten and reaches Phangga. We descend to the river bank before hiking up to the deadly moraine of Ngozamba Glacier on a steep track. The trip passes through Longpong, Raboche Tsho, and Dudh Pokhari before reaching Gokyo. We will see the footprints of Lama on the path next to the first lake. The trekkers will explore Dudh Pokhari before the end of the day. The overnight stay will be at Gokyo.

We spend one more day to acclimatize to the high altitude. We will be climbing Gokyo Ri if the weather is good. From the top of Gokyo Ri, we will admire the Himalayan vista and the tranquil lakes of Gokyo. We will also be hiking to the fourth and fifth Gokyo lakes. The 4th lake is only about 3Km north of Gokyo. It is marked by high cliffs and Himalayan peaks that rise above it. Walking a little further, we will reach 5th lake. You can see a lot from a climb up a nearby hill. The spot is called Scoundrel’s Viewpoint. Then, we will walk back to Machhermo by the end of the day.

You need to pack your bags lightly because you will not be able to carry heavy loads along with the trek. You will not be able to enjoy your journey in the Himalayas unless you pack wisely. You will be sleeping in small lodges and tea houses during the entire trip. Please be prepared with the right clothes as per the season. Everest base camp trek is not difficult physically. However, the altitude will make it hard. The trek has rising and falling flats and abruptly ascends but it is generally manageable for the trekker of any age. They require little trekking experience. However, it is advised for the trekker to be physically fit and have some training before planning this trek.
The total distance of this trek is 62 Kilometers or 38.58 miles. It will take 7 to 8 days to reach the destination. Similarly, 3-4 days to return to Lukla. Each day you need to walk less than 8-10 Kilometers to complete the entire trip.
The best month for the trek is during the pre-monsoon months. This is generally from March to May. However, post-monsoon months starting from late September till December are also considered favorable. You need to prepare accordingly during the winter seasons. Some people also go trekking in February and early September.
Trekkers will enjoy 3 hearty meals on each day of the trek. You will have breakfast and dinner at the same lodge where you will stay at night. You will be provided lunch at teahouses or small restaurants along the way. You can easily choose your favorite food from the menu provided to you. Our leaders will make sure that you are provided with the right foods. You will be given fresh and organic fruits. They may be brought from Kathmandu or locally sourced in the villages. Your diet will comprise complex carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. We may arrange vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and kosher diets with prior notice.
Yes, the trek is fixable. We can continue to other trekking as per guest request. However, visit other trekking sites may include additional charge.
