Today’s path leads you deeper into the wilderness, ascending steadily through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and maple. This section of the trail is serene and often mystical, with trees covered in moss and lichen. As we hike more toward Low Camp (2,900m), the vegetation begins to thin, and you catch your first spectacular glimpses of Machhapuchhre peeking through the canopy.

Leaving the treeline behind, you trek on a stunning ridge walk towards High Camp (3,585m). You will pass through Badal Danda (Cloud Hill), a viewpoint that often sits above the clouds, offering a surreal 360-degree panorama of the mountains. The trail follows a narrow, grassy ridgeline with deep valleys on both sides, the Modi Khola to the left and the Mardi Khola to the right.

This is the most challenging and rewarding day. You will start very early, often around 4:00 AM, to reach the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) in time for a breathtaking sunrise. Standing at the foot of the Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre, the mountain views are raw and unobstructed. After soaking in the views, you retrace your steps back to High Camp for lunch before descending further to Low Camp for a well-deserved rest.

The descent from Low Camp follows a different, steeper route through lush forests and terraced landscapes. You will head toward Sidhing, a traditional Gurung village that offers an authentic cultural experience away from the more commercialized trekking paths.
The village is known for its warm hospitality and traditional lifestyles, including the famous honey hunters who collect wild honey from cliffs.

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the ideal seasons to visit Mardi Himal Trek. During the spring, the weather is pleasantly warm, and the trails are filled with red, pink, and white rhododendron forests. However, as the monsoon rains clear the air, Autumn seasons are also favorable season to trek, providing crystal-clear visibility of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. While trekking is possible in winter (December to February), it is often extremely cold with temperatures dropping to -10°C at high altitudes, and snow may block the path to Base Camp. The monsoon season (June to August) is generally avoided due to heavy rains, slippery trails, and leeches in the forested areas.
Mardi Himal trek is classified as Moderate trek, which requires a certain level of physical fitness. You will be hiking on steep trails for 5 to 7 hours daily. So, the preparation should begin weeks in advance and focus on cardiovascular endurance through activities like running, swimming, or cycling. Since the trail involves significant elevation gain and many stone steps, stair climbing and leg-strengthening exercises are highly recommended to prevent muscle fatigue. While prior mountain experience is a plus, the trek is accessible to beginners who are healthy and possess a motivated mindset.
The teahouses along the trail provide a variety of Nepali, Tibetan, and international meals. However, the staple dish is Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables), which is famous for being nutritious, filling, and often serving as a source of unlimited refills. Other popular options include Momos (dumplings), pasta, noodles, pancakes, and porridge. For safety, it is strongly advised to stick to vegetarian options at higher altitudes, as meat hygiene and storage can be unreliable in remote areas. Additionally, trekkers should never drink untreated tap water and instead use purification tablets, filters, or boiled water.
Accommodation on the Mardi Himal trail consists of basic teahouses or lodges. Rooms are typically twin-sharing with two single beds, foam mattresses, and blankets. It is important to note that sleeping rooms are not heated, so a high-quality sleeping bag rated for -10°C to -15°C is essential for warmth. The dining hall is the central social hub and is usually the only room that is heated in the evenings. Facilities like hot showers, Wi-Fi, and electronic charging are available at most lower-altitude stops but typically carry an additional fee of USD 2 to 5 per service.
The most significant things to be included on the backpack are:
Others
Small medical kits to put some emergency necessary medicines which you need.
The trek is graded as Grade 3/Moderate, meaning it is physically demanding but does not require technical climbing skills like using ropes or ice axes. The challenge arises from the narrow ridgelines and constant steep ascents. The most difficult section is the push from High Camp (3,580m) to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m), where the air is thinner and the path becomes rocky and exposed. Trekkers must be mindful of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) when ascending above 3,000 meters; the best remedies are to maintain a slow, steady pace, stay well-hydrated, and descend if symptoms like severe headaches or nausea persist.
All visitors to Nepal require a visa except Indian nationals. Citizens of SAARC nations, such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, are exempt for up to 30 days.

Yes, Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek suitable for beginners with good physical fitness, though it involves walking 5–7 hours daily on steep terrain.
Mardi Himal Trek offers basic teahouses or lodges, typically offering twin-sharing rooms with simple beds and shared bathroom facilities.
Mardi Himal Trek usually doesnt invite altitude sickness. Saying that, it also totally depends on how your body cope with the altitude. So, it is better to follow prevention methods, which are: ascending gradually, staying well-hydrated, avoiding alcohol, and taking acclimatization breaks.
There are no ATMs on the trail, so you must withdraw sufficient Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu or Pokhara before your departure.
