Kathmandu-Syabrubesi-Lama Hotel-Langtang Valley-Kyangin Gompa-Kyangin Re-Syabrubesi-Kathmandu
The Langtang Valley Trek is an extraordinary 8-day journey that takes you just 122 km north of Kathmandu, The trek remains one of Nepal’s most accessible yet pristine trekking destinations, offering a perfect escape for those with limited time. This route offers a magnificent blend of majestic snow-capped peaks, rare Himalayan wildlife, and the deep-rooted Tamang culture. For those looking for a journey that strikes a balance between physical adventure and cultural discovery, this moderate-grade trek is an ideal choice.
As you enter the Langtang National Park, the first of its kind in Nepal’s high Himalayas, you are welcomed by a diverse landscape ranging from subtropical forests to high-altitude alpine meadows. The lower sections of the trail wind through dense bamboo and rhododendron forests, which are famously vibrant during the spring bloom. This protected area serves as a sanctuary for unique species such as the endangered red panda, Himalayan black bear, and langur monkeys. Watching the golden sunlight hit the granite face of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) is a sight that truly defines the valley's grandeur.
The cultural heart of the trek lies within the traditional Tamang villages scattered along the route. These communities follow Tibetan Buddhist traditions, evidenced by the numerous prayer wheels, stone-carved mani walls, and fluttering prayer flags that line the mountain paths.
A small part of the route involves witnessing the resilience of the local people. Langtang Village, which was tragically destroyed during the 2015 earthquake, has been completely reconstructed by the residents and now stands as a powerful testament to their strength and hospitality.
Your 8-day itinerary begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, and the trek officially starts the next day. The most exhilarating part of the trek is the optional hike to the Tserko Ri viewpoint.
Nights in these mountains are spent huddled around wood-burning stoves in the communal dining halls of tea houses, sharing stories with fellow travelers from across the globe. These quiet moments, combined with the sound of the raging Langtang river and the sight of grazing yaks, create memories that stay with you long after you return home. Accommodation throughout the route is provided in cozy tea houses, where you can enjoy local staples like dal bhat.
PLEASE NOTE that as of recent regulations, it is mandatory to hire a licensed guide for safety and to support the local trekking economy.

Yes. As of early 2025 regulations, it is mandatory for all foreign trekkers to hire a licensed guide for safety and navigation. Solo or independent trekking is currently prohibited in the Langtang region. Additionally, a guide assists with local culture, handles logistics, and manages potential emergencies like altitude sickness.
Yes, the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) increases above 3,000m, specifically between Lama Hotel and Kyanjin Gompa. To prevent it, you should ascend gradually, stay hydrated (3-4 liters of water daily), and avoid alcohol. If symptoms like severe headache or nausea persist, you must descend immediately. However, our guides will be taking care of your health all the time.
To trek in the Langtang region, foreigners are mandatory required to obtain two primary permits: the Langtang National Park Entry Permit and the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) Card.
Daytime temperatures range from 10°C to 20°C, although nights at higher altitudes may fall to -10°C, particularly in winter. Warm clothes are highly recommended.
Internet access is offered in many teahouses along the Langtang Valley Trek, but it usually comes at an additional cost of around USD 3-5. Keep in mind that speeds are often slow and the connection becomes less stable as you gain altitude.
Trekking in Langtang during the monsoon is generally discouraged because frequent rainfall increases the risk of landslides, makes trails muddy and slippery, and brings leeches, all of which can reduce safety and comfort.
Yes, having travel insurance is essential when trekking in a foreign country. It provides coverage for emergencies, accidents, natural hazards, and unexpected expenses, so make sure your policy fully includes trekking in the Langtang Valley.
