The Tamang Heritage trek is one of the perfect combinations of easier and beautiful treks. This route is categorized as modest that will take you from the banks of the Bhote Kosi River. It is said that the earthquake of 2015 caused some destruction in this region. Before that, the region was one of the most popular destinations on the trekking map. This journey is very valuable with incredible alpine scenery, engaging culture, and comfortable accommodation. Walking is not that exhausting with all those beauties around.
The trip passes with the heritages of Tamang that welcome you with warm culture. There is terraced farmland that provides you an insight into the traditional farming of Nepal. Farming and cattle rearing is the major occupation of local people residing in the villages. Similarly, you may climb to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for panoramic views. On top of that, there are the giant Himalayas that add beauty to nature. The valley is home to many rare animals of Nepal such as the Red Panda and Snow Leopard. On the way, you will be observing Mt. Langtang Lirung, Mt. Ganesh, Dorje Lakpa, etc. This trek is an easy choice and includes a very minimal cost compared to other treks.
The villages provide you the knowledge of the unique culture and tradition of the Tamang communities. Similarly, Kyanjin Gompa is an important religious landmark. Upon your arrival at TIA (Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu), our representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal and then you will be taken to your respective hotel. After the check-in process, you can rest if you are too tired. You will also be provided a welcome dinner hosted by our institution. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, we will start a guided tour to some historical attractions in Kathmandu (Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. In the evening we take you for a short tour to Thamel, which is the main tourist hub in Kathmandu. We will make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money exchange, supermarket, gear shops and other necessary things you might need for your trip. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
We will be reaching Syabrubesi after 7 hours of the drive towards the north of Kathmandu. We will be taking a jeep or bus from Kathmandu. We can observe the gorgeous scenery of Trishuli Bazar and Dhunche on the way. You can observe the beautiful Himalayan peaks of Annapurna, Manaslu, and Ganesh as we cross Kakani. Similarly, the terraced green hills and lush forests make your drive very pleasurable. We will stay overnight at Syabrubesi.
Sabrubesi is the common start point for this trek of the Langtang region. We will be ascending a viewpoint for an hour or a half. After that, you may observe the fantastic view of Ganesh Himal, Gosaikunda range, and the Golijang valley. We will be stopping at this valley to take lunch. In the afternoon, about 3 hours trek will take us to Gatlang. This is a beautiful Tamang village. Tamangs are one of the marginalized groups of Nepal. The overnight stay will be at Gatlang
Today we will be walking by descending to Thangbuchet, by a beautiful river. After lunch, the path heads up again. We will cross a hanging bridge and climb to Tatopani. Tatopani is the place where we will be stopping at night. There are towns name ‘Tatopani’ all over Nepal which means hot water. Here, you may enjoy the natural hot springs. It is very exciting in the cold weather. Locals also believe that water has a healing quality. It will ease away all the aches and pains from the trek.
Today, we will ascend to Nagthali Danda. This is a high open grassland having amazing views of the Himalayas. We will be stopping at the delightful Bindang village for lunch. After that trekkers will continue up to Nagthali Danda. You may also stop for a masala chiya, prepared by the gompa’s caretaker upon your arrival. Then, we will be continuing down to Thuman. The place is a beautiful Tamang village with friendly people where we will be staying overnight.
Today trekkers will be walking along a flatter section of the path. The path follows the part of the old trade route to Tibet. Tibet is not far away from this region. The path continues to Briddim after lunch. This is another Tamang village where you will be staying in a local home. The environment here is very friendly. Accommodation, lodges will be offered at local houses which are a unique experience. These facilities are provided on a rotational basis. Overnight stay will be at Briddim.
You will be provided for breakfast in the morning. After that, we will be heading towards the Lama Hotel. The path crosses through the Bhotekoshi River and follows the Langtang River. We ford the river through a suspension bridge. After that, the trekking path climbs to Bamboo forests. It passes through the landslide region. The trek provides you scenic wilderness. You will be treated to the sight of native wildlife. They include Langur monkeys, Himalayan black bears, and red pandas. We will stay overnight at Lama Hotel.
On this day, we will be trekking uphill. On the way, you can observe beautiful oak, maple, rhododendron, and hemlock forests. The valley is filled with herds of yaks that add beauty to nature. You will get to encounter them in the pastures. This village is a very old one that was discovered way before. You can see the views of the mountains in even more brilliance and beauty. After a few hours of walk from Langtang village, we will be heading to Mundu. Overnight stay will be at this place.
Our walk today is shorter but more exciting. You can see the famous cheese factory on your way. This day we will be hiking to Kyangin Gompa. We will scale the glacial moraine and therefore the trek will be one of the most exciting moments. You can observe the amazing views of the Kyanjin Gompa. The trek becomes even more exhilarating when you see the icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung Mountain. The Kyangin Gompa is considered a famous Buddhist monastery. It is the place of utmost significance to the local community.
Today we have one more acclimatization day. After breakfast, we go on a small excursion. A 3-4 hours hike to Tserko Ri, where you can experience the panoramic views from east and west. Upon our return, you will have free time to rest and relax. However, on the next day, we will be prepared for another destination.
We descent towards the Lama hotel. On this day, we make our way back. You can enjoy the majestic views of the towering mountains. You will regret it if you forget to take your camera. Many people capture these beautiful moments through their camera and take a wonderful memory along with them. We might even encounter other wildlife as we descend back to Lama Hotel. We will stay overnight at Lama Hotel.
Today is the comparatively easier trek which will take about 3 hours walk. We will be having lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring. Syabrubesi is a small town where you will find small shops that sell handicrafts. You may purchase them as a memory. You may colorful aprons and shawls prepared by women in the local style. Overnight stay will be at Syabrubesi.
We take the next stunning morning drive back to Kathmandu. We will wave a heartfelt goodbye to the majestic mountains. After we land in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to our hotels and left on your own to enjoy and relax. Overnight stay at the hotel. If you are too tired, you can relax and celebrate the highly rewarding trek.
Our journey in Nepal comes to an end today. Our representative will guide us to the airport about 3 hours before our planned flight. On our way home, we have an abundance of time to map our next adventure in the astonishing country of Nepal.

You need to pack your bags lightly because you will not be able to carry heavy loads along with the trek. You will not be able to enjoy your journey in the Himalayas unless you pack wisely. You will be sleeping in small lodges and tea houses during the entire trip. Please be prepared with the right clothes as per the season. The trek is not difficult physically. However, the altitude will make it hard. The trek has rising and falling flats and abruptly ascends but it is generally manageable for the trekker of any age. They require little trekking experience. It is advised for the trekker to be physically fit and have some training before planning this trek.
