Kathmandu- Lumbini- Kapilvastu- Devdaha- Kathmandu
We will head to Lumbini from Kathmandu. We can either go by road or by air as well. Going by road is likely to take about 7-8 hours but if we choose to come by air we will arrive there in around 40 minutes. We will be heading to the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha. Lord Buddha is the religious leader behind Buddhism and he was born in Lumbini. His birthplace and his palace are all conserved and protected inside the Mayadevi Temple which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Besides the temple lies a sacred pool and the Ashoka pillar, which was erected by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC. The vibes that you get after entering the Mayadevi temple area are so different. You will feel so much calmness and peacefulness inside the temple.
All in all the tour from Kathmandu to Lumbini will be drastic because you will be moving from crowded Kathmandu to the calm Lumbini. Besides Lumbini, there are many other religious Buddhist monuments that you can visit. For the best experience, it is suggested that you go to Lumbini via road because one the way you will get to see so many things and can stop by at some local shops to buy souvenirs or some good food.
You can change this itinerary, services, accommodation, duration of this trip etc.to suit your needs and budget. The choice is yours. Let us help you tailor your perfect holiday.
Kathmandu has a lot of places to roam around. If you take time and visit all the places properly, you might have to spend weeks here. However, for people who are in a rush, we can have a quick visit to some of the most popular places in Kathmandu. The places that you must not miss when you come to Kathmandu are Kathmandu Durbar Square, SwayambhunathStupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath stupa. These places are listed in the world heritage sites by UNESCO. Including the above four places, there are many other places where you can go to visit in Kathmandu so if there is any place that you would particularly like to see, we can make adjustments. We will not be able to get the best experience in a day visiting many places so we can choose one place and visit and know it well too if you choose to. After completing the day we can choose to go out to see the nightlife in Kathmandu or take a good rest for tomorrow’s journey.
Looking at our flight schedule or our travel schedule we can make changes in the Kathmandu sightseeing. It can be done on the first day of your visit or it can also be shifted to the final day of your tour. It would take us around 7-8 hours to reach Lumbini from Kathmandu by road and if we go from the domestic flights, it will take us about 40 minutes.
Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast
We will have our breakfast early in the morning and head towards the main destination in Lumbini that is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mayadevi Temple. The whole place is developed under a master plan in the area of 6 km*2 km. Our tour will start from the ‘New Tourist village’ and after that we will visit the World Peace Pagoda and Museum. There is also the pilgrimage concept of master plan to introduce Buddhism and purify mind through the monastic zone. Mahayani and Teravadi Monasteries of Buddhism are spread across the cannon. Lastly we will go to the Mayadevi Temple which is protecting the ‘Marker Stone’ Statue of nativity scene and ruins of old temple walls that date from 3rd BC to 12 AD. Besides the temple stands Ashoka pillar with the inscriptions explaining the visit of emperor Ashoka to the birth place of Buddha. There is also the pond where Buddha first took a bath. We will roam around the Mayadevi temple for today and return back to our hotel in the evening.
Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast
Besides Mayadevi temple there are other religious and archaeological sites around Lumbini in Kapilvastu. Tilaurakot, the ancient Kapilvastu was the capital of Shakyaas, where Buddha spent his first 29 years. Next place we move to is Kudan where Buddha was received by his father after his access to enlightenment. Kudan (NIgrodharma Park) was specially built by King Suddodhana for the accommodation of Buddha and his followers. After Kudan we will movetoGotihawa, the birth place of Krakuchanda Buddha. Then there is Niglihawa where Kanakmuni Buddha was born. Lastly, Sagarhawa is the archaeological findings as ‘place of the massacre of Shakyas’. After a tiring day we will head back to our hotel to rejuvenate for our final day at Lumbini.
Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast
Today is our last day at Lumbini and we will drive and visit religious and archaeological sites at Devdaha and Ramagram. Devdaha is the ancient capital of the KoliyaKingdon. It is the maternal hometown of Queen Mayadevi (Mother of Buddha), PrajapatiGautami (Buddha’s Stepmother), and Princess Yasodhara (Buddha’s wife). This was also the place where Gautam Buddha spent his childhood. Then, we will move to Ramagram which is the brick mound on the bank of the Jharahi River. It is a seven-meter high brick stupa consisting of a relic (one of the eight asthadhatu) of Lord Buddha. It was made by the king of Ramgrama who was the eighth king to obtain the Buddha’s relics.
After completing our visit to Ramgrana, we will have something to eat and drive back/fly back to Kathmandu.
This is the end of our tour to Lumbini but if we return back early and you want to see the nightlife of Kathmandu and sit at a place to chill, you can go to the Thamel area where there are lots of hotel and restaurants which offer great food and service. You are more likely to want to spend more days traveling around here or return back soon after the completion of your tour.
