The trek on Upper Dolpo is most magnificent among the trekking peaks of Nepal. You will get the chance to reach Shey Phoksundo Lake which is one of the largest lakes in Nepal. It is fun to embark on the western region of Nepal that is protected by Shey Phoksundo National Park. On the way, you will be walking through the forests of pine, juniper, and spruce. Similarly, you may view the magnificent views of the snow-capped Himalayas.
The trek also takes us to Nepalgunj, Sulighat, Sibhu, Dho Tarap, Tarakot, and Dunai village. This visit will allow travelers to get familiar with the diverse Nepalese landscape and culture. This is a very long trek for those who are trekking for the first time. However, you will be benefitted when you get the chance to circle the Upper Dolpo regions. The gradual development and road access to Dolpa have several striking climbing routes. They have become endangered. This allows escaping the major road sections and traversing on the beautiful unexplored remote regions of Nepal. The trek also involves the crossing of Shey Gompa which is the 800-year-old monastery. You may also observe the most endangered animal Snow Leopard if you visit the national park.

Upon your arrival at TIA (Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu), our representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal and then you will be taken to your respective hotel. After the check-in process, you can rest if you are too tired. You will also be provided a welcome dinner hosted by our institution. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, we will start a guided tour to some historical attractions in Kathmandu (Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. In the evening we take you for a short tour to Thamel, which is the main tourist hub in Kathmandu. We will make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money exchange, supermarket, gear shops and other necessary things you might need for your trip. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Today, we will be flying to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu for about an hour. Nepalgunj is the popular city of Nepal located in the western region. This flight will offer you in-flight views of the green forests and Himalayan Range. Nepalgunj is located in the southern region of Nepal. So, it is normally called the Terai area. We check in hotel in Nepalgunj and visit the local market for food hunt and shopping. Overnight stay will be at a local lodge.
On this day, we take a flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal. We may also use local transportation to reach our final destination. We then start our trek towards Dunai with a short hike along the Thuli Bheri River. There is plenty of interesting things to roam around the town like stupas and monasteries. We may visit them if time permits. Overnight stay will be at Dunai.
Today, we will be taking breakfast early in the morning. In this way, we will trek up to a place called Ankhe. The path ascends southeast, which is high above another Valley called Thulo Bheri. On the way, you will observe tropical walnut and maple forests. There you will see glimpses of Tibetan culture. Waterfalls and lush vegetation are some other attractions of this region. We reach the village of Ankhe to stay overnight.
Today, we come to the streets of Dunai and cross the bridge over the Bheri river. Follow the northern bank of the river to Sulighat. On the way, you could observe green forests, rhododendron, and waterfalls. All those natural beauties will make your day. The trek might be tiring but it is highly rewarding because of those spectacular views. Overnight stay will be at Sulighat.
The path today climbs through a cedar forest to a winter settlement of the local people of Ringmo village. This is another beautiful village in the Dolpo region. You will get the opportunity to explore the culture and traditions of the local people of Ringmo village. You need to cross the bridge and follow the northern path. This takes us to the ranger station at Phoksundo lake. The overnight stay will be at Ringmogaun.
Today, the area around the magnificent Phoksundo Lake will be explored. You may explore the Ringmo village as well as the culture and traditions of the local people. Trekkers will descend along the steep-sided cliffs to the lake. Phoksundo Lake is considered sacred by Buddhists and followers of the Bonpo religion. They believe that the lake consists of an underwater palace and a tantric Mandala of spirits. The lake is famous for its spectacular scenery. Thus, we spend one extra day observing the spiritual and natural beauty of this place.
The day starts with a steady climb along the path carved into the Cliffside. You will get the opportunity to overlook the lake. You will get the opportunity to look at all intents and purposes. You will be passing through the rocky land to see the glorious view. In this way, the forested path takes us to Phoksundo Khola. We will be resting today at a camp. You will be provided the food and other medicines at camp.
Today, we need to climb steeply upwards to Bhanjyang of Phoksundo. You will be provided for breakfast early in the morning. The path is a little rocky and slippery. However, our professional coaches are there to guide you in any difficult circumstances. Please feel free to take help from them. After some hours of trek, we come to our final destination. You will get the opportunity to explore the lifestyle of the local people living there. We will stay overnight at this place.
Today, we make our hike to the legendary Shey Gompa. The region is barren and semi-arid and it is scenic for its uninterrupted views. The path leads on an upwards to the pass of Nagdalo La. We pause to celebrate the moment because it is an achievement in itself. We will take streaming prayer flags. After that, we head towards the sacred mountain of Mt. Kailash. The mountain lies on the border between India and Tibet. Today, you will observe the mystical monastery called Shey Gompa which is 800 years old. We stay overnight at this place.
We take one more day to relax and explore this beautiful place. You may know the historical importance of this monastery. Trekkers will get the opportunity to indulge in the peaceful scenery and harmonious surroundings of this monastery. We will however remain prepared for our next trip tomorrow.
A two-hour hike away from Shey Gompa takes us to another pass called Saldang La. You will further achieve some new experiences in the Dolpo adventure. Trekkers will get the opportunity to explore Mustang, Tibet, and Mt. Kailash. From there, the path descends abruptly until we reach another beautiful village of this region called Namduna Gaun. We will get the opportunity to see another beautiful gompa of this region called Namgung Gumpa. The site also welcomes you with the same warmth and grace. Overnight stay will be at this place.
Today, we follow the Namga Khola and the path descends even further. You will be going downstream through Yak pastures. Trekkers will get the opportunity to see serene mountain views. After a few hours of trek, we reach our today’s destination called Saldang village. The village has highly rewarding natural beauty and cultural heritages where we will stay overnight.
Today, we will again be visiting another mystical Gompa called Yangze. It is a 100-year-old historic and cultural piece. It is the most elaborate monastery in this region. There are numerous chortens of various sizes that add to its striking appearance. After exploring the monastery, we return to Saldang for an overnight stay.
Today, we will be having breakfast early in the morning. After that, we continue our hike to another beautiful destination called Sinu. On the way, you will observe giant mountains, undulating and arid hills. All those beauties make you feel that your journey was worth traveling. Sibu is one of the hidden lands of Nepal. There you will get to observe green fields, lush vegetation, and rhododendron. Overnight stay will be at this place.
Today, we will be heading towards another beautiful place called Jeng-la Phedi. You will observe trees and isolated hamlets at this place. Trekkers will also get to notice small rock walls carving out the arid region. Our day comes to an end when we arrive at Jeng-La Phedi. Here, we will arrange a camp for the evening. Tented camps will add another new experience for trekkers.
Today, we will be following the natural path of a waterway and cross through Jeng La Pass. We will be walking through the banks of some important rivers. After some hours of trek, we arrive at one of the beautiful villages of this region called Tokyu Gaon. The village is quite remote and is unknown to most of the trekkers. It is not well explored and discovered. We will stay overnight at Tokyu Gaon.
The path continues and heads up forward to another place in this region called Dho Tarap. By this time, trekkers might feel exhausted because of the consistent trek. Our professional coaches will advise you to relax for some time on the way. After a few hours of trek, we will be arriving at our other destination of the day. Dho Tarap is not quite known to many travelers. Overnight stay will be at this place.
The path leads through lush rhododendron forests, sacred lakes, and other glaciers of varying sizes. You may observe the tall peaks surrounding you. It just takes some hours to discover the place. The trek doesn’t involve any technical difficulties. You may observe the magnificent views of the hills and mountains from the Dho Tarap. The day is the most beautiful of the entire trip. Do not forget to capture this moment on your camera. We will stay overnight at this place.
Today, you will get the opportunity to see the green pastures and terraced fields. You can explore plenty of charms of this place on your way. Trekkers may observe the traditional Tibetan lifestyles of the friendly inhabitants. The few hours of trek from the main place takes you to the Tarap Khola. The river of this region is fast-flowing and is originated from the snow-capped Himalayas. The scenic beauty of the river will make your day and you will get lost in its beauty. The overnight stay will be at Dho Tarap.
A series of small villages will greet us along our journey towards Tarap valley. One of them is Khanigaon. The word Khani in Nepali means “ rich” or “valuable”. Therefore, this village is rich in natural beauty and wildlife. You may observe the high hills and glorious mountains from this village. The rare flora and fauna of this region are yet to be discovered. We will stay overnight at this beautiful place.
Today, we will be heading forward towards another scenic landscape. The path continues through the looming walls of the gorge. The site is one of the best and most beautiful stretches in the world. On the way, you will get to notice woodlands and terraced farms. Terraced farms are usually constructed to protect fields from a natural disaster. Therefore, they are very popular in the mountainous region of Nepal. Overnight stay will be at Tarakot.
Today, we will be walking through the Banks of the Thuli Bheri River. The trek will not be that difficult now as we are almost up to the end of our trekking journey. We suggest you enjoy these moments. These are the unexplored remote regions of Nepal. After a few hours of trek, we will arrive at our destination point called Dunai. We will stay overnight at a local lodge.
Today, our trek is a comparatively shorter one. After a few hours, we will be arriving at Juphal. Today is the end of our trekking journey. We say goodbye to the remote villages of Nepal. We will be celebrating our achievement of completing one of Nepal’s most demanding treks. However, trekkers are informed to be prepared for the next day.
We say goodbye to the stunning Dolpo region after breakfast. After that, we fly towards Nepalgunj. Then, we fly back to Kathmandu which takes about an hour. After reaching Kathmandu, we have the remaining day off to rest or do some reminder shopping. We may also go for a short tour to Kathmandu valley as there are various important sites such as Patan Durbar Square, Hanuman Dhoka, Bhaktapur, etc.
Today we will walk around the local town in Kathmandu to experience the historical, cultural, and spiritual aspects of the valley, explore the century-old monuments, architecture, crafts, visit the temple of the living goddess “Kumari”.We will have a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful journey. The overnight will be in Kathmandu.
Our journey in Nepal comes to an end from today. Our representative will guide us to the airport about 3 hours before our planned flight. On our way home, we have an abundance of time to map our next adventure in the astonishing country of Nepal.

You need to pack your bags lightly because you will not be able to carry heavy loads along with the trek. You will not be able to enjoy your journey in the Himalayas unless you pack wisely. You will be sleeping in small lodges and tea houses during the entire trip. Please be prepared with the right clothes as per the season. The trek may be difficult for those who are trekking for the first time. The altitude will make it harder. The trek has rising and falling flats and abruptly ascends but it is generally manageable for the trekker of any age. They require little trekking experience. However, it is advised for the trekker to be physically fit and have some training before planning this trek.
You can enter Nepal by land as well as flight. Several airlines have direct flights to Kathmandu from many different countries like London, Paris, Doha, Osaka, Bangkok, Singapore, etc. One representative from our office will be at the airport to pick up. So, you can easily enter this beautiful country.
The trekking cost including accommodation, guide/porter, fees, foods etc remains the same. Nepalese citizens do not have to pay permit fees unlike foreigners. Foreign citizens need to pay extra charges. The cost will differ nearly by 200 US$ to Nepalese. You may inquire us for the further updated cost.
It is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance. You need to make sure that it covers emergency evacuation at high altitude. Altitude sickness may attack you though you are physically fit. The only solution is to take time and walk slow. If you feel uncomfortable, it is suggested to go lower elevation.
We will run our booked trips under normal circumstances. You will still be going on the trip even if other hikers cancel at the end moment. We will not cancel the whole trip even if there is less number of participants. Please note that we will not be continuing the trip if there is a political riot, natural disasters, pandemic, epidemic or catastrophes, etc.
Yes, the trek is fixable. We can continue to other trekking as per guest request. However, visit other trekking sites may include additional charge.
