The trek on Shey Phoksundo is most majestic among the trekking peaks of Nepal. You will get the chance to reach Shey Phoksundo Lake which is the second-largest Lake in Nepal. It is fun to embark on the western region of Nepal that is protected by Shey Phoksundo National Park. On the way, you will be walking through the forests of pine, juniper, and spruce. Similarly, you may view the magnificent views of the snow-capped Himalayas.
The trek also takes us to Nepalgunj, Chhepka, and Ringmo village. This visit will allow travelers to get familiar with the diverse Nepalese landscape and culture. This is a very long trek for those who are trekking for the first time. However, you will be benefitted when you get the chance to circle the Shey Phoksundo regions. Some trekkers may also prefer a shorter trek. The gradual development and road access to Dolpa have several striking climbing routes. They have become endangered. This allows escaping the major road sections and traversing on the beautiful unexplored remote regions of Nepal. The trek also involves the crossing of Bon Gompa which is the 900-year-old monastery. You may also observe the most endangered animal Snow Leopard if you visit the national park.
Throughout this tour, you will visit the amazing villages and towns of the Dolpo regions. Upon your arrival at TIA (Tribhuvan International airport, Kathmandu), our representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal and then you will be taken to your respective hotel. After the check-in process, you can rest if you are too tired. You will also be provided a welcome dinner hosted by our institution. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, we will start a guided tour to some historical attractions in Kathmandu (Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. In the evening we take you for a short tour to Thamel, which is the main tourist hub in Kathmandu. We will make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money exchange, supermarket, gear shops and other necessary things you might need for your trip. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Today, we will be flying to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu for about an hour. Nepalgunj is the popular city of Nepal located in the western region. This flight will offer you in-flight views of the green forests and Himalayan Range. Nepalgunj is located in the southern region of Nepal. So, it is normally called the Terai area. We check in hotel in Nepalgunj and visit the local market for food hunt and shopping. Overnight stay will be at a local lodge.
Today, we will fly to Juphal which is the starting point to the Shey Phoksundo trek. The path ascends southeast, which is high above another Valley called Thulo Bheri. After that, the path takes us through maize fields. In this way, we come to the streets of Dunai and cross the bridge over the Bheri river. Follow the northern bank of the river to Sulighat. After that, we are about to reach Shey Phoksundo National Park. On the way, you will observe tropical walnut and maple forests. There you will see glimpses of Tibetan culture. Waterfalls and lush vegetation are some other attractions of this region. In this way, we reach the village of Chhepka to stay overnight.
Today, we will be taking breakfast early in the morning. The place called Jarana emerged as an important place recently. On the way, you may observe green forests, rivers, waterfalls, and rhododendron. All those natural beauties will make your day. The trek might be tiring but it is highly rewarding because of those spectacular views. Overnight stay will be at Jarana hotel.
The path today climbs through a cedar forest to a winter settlement of the local people of Ringmo village. This is another beautiful village in Dolpo region. You will get the opportunity to explore the culture and traditions of the local people of Ringmo village. Trekkers may also interview them regarding their lifestyle if they know the Nepali language. Ringmo is known as a Tibetan village and is famous for Tibetan Buddhism. We will be trekking through the birch forests to the upper reaches of the Phoksundo River. You need to cross the bridge and follow the northern path. This takes us to the ranger station at Phoksundo lake. Overnight stay will be at this place.
Today, the area around the magnificent Phoksundo Lake will be explored. You may explore the Ringmo village before we head to a 900-year-old monastery called Bon Gompa. Trekkers will descend along the steep-sided cliffs to the lake. Phoksundo Lake is considered sacred by Buddhists and followers of the Bonpo religion. They believe that the lake consists of an underwater palace and a tantric Mandala of spirits. The lake is famous for its spectacular scenery
After exploring the beautiful Shey Phoksundo Lake, we head to another village in this region called Chhepka. Today, we will be leaving our path off to Shey Phoksundo lake and continue a short walk up to our destination. We will have a gradual ascent on this trip and the way goes more right behind the hill. In this way, our journey takes us to Chhepka where we will stay overnight at a local lodge.
After taking breakfast early in the morning, we prepare our journey back to Juphal. On the way, you will observe beautiful forests, fields, and villages. Our journey back to Juphal takes around 6 hours. You may relax for sometime after arriving Juphal. We will be prepared for our next flight to Nepalgunj tomorrow.
We say goodbye to the stunning Dolpo region after breakfast. After that, we fly towards Nepalgunj. Then, we fly back to Kathmandu which takes about an hour. After reaching Kathmandu, we have the remaining day off to rest or do some reminder shopping. We may also go for a short tour to Kathmandu valley as there are various important sites such as Patan Durbar Square, Hanuman Dhoka, Bhaktapur, etc. We will have a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful journey. The overnight will be at Kathmandu.
Our journey in Nepal comes to an end today. Our representative will guide us to the airport about 3 hours before our planned flight. On our way home, we have an abundance of time to map our next adventure in the astonishing country of Nepal.

You need to pack your bags lightly because you will not be able to carry heavy loads along with the trek. You will not be able to enjoy your journey in the Himalayas unless you pack wisely. You will be sleeping in small lodges and tea houses during the entire trip. Please be prepared with the right clothes as per the season. You can enter Nepal by land as well as flight. Several airlines have direct flights to Kathmandu from many different countries like London, Paris, Doha, Osaka, Bangkok, Singapore, etc. One representative from our office will be at the airport to pick up. So, you can easily enter this beautiful country.
You don’t have to be a marathon runner. However, you need to be mentally and physically prepared while you are trekking in the mountainous regions. You may have to walk for 5-7 hours per day depending on your speed. Individuals need no such detailed skills for trekking in mountainous regions of Nepal. However, we will be providing orientation before the trek.
We will organize a porter for you so that you can hike back to Lukla. The porter will be carrying your duffel bags. Similarly, we will provide a stipend to cover your lodges and meals. Our staff will meet you at Lukla, arrange tickets and assist you to make the safe flight back to Kathmandu.
It is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance. You need to make sure that it covers emergency evacuation at high altitude. Altitude sickness may attack you though you are physically fit. The only solution is to take time and walk slow. If you feel uncomfortable, it is suggested to go lower elevation.
We will run our booked trips under normal circumstances. You will still be going on the trip even if other hikers cancel at the end moment. We will not cancel the whole trip even if there are fewer participants. Please note that we will not be continuing the trip if there is a political riot, natural disasters, pandemic, epidemic or catastrophes, etc.
Yes, the trek is fixable. We can continue to other trekking as per guest request. However, visit other trekking sites may include additional charge.
