The Helambu Trek is very popular and easy because the altitude is not that high compared to other treks. This route is categorized as modest that will take you from the banks of the Bhote Kosi River. It is said that the earthquake of 2015 caused some destruction in this region. Before that, the region was one of the most popular destinations on the trekking map. This journey is very valuable with incredible alpine scenery, engaging culture, and comfortable accommodation. Walking is not that exhausting with all those beauties around.
We will drive to Sundarijal and even trek to Chisopani. After that, we will arrive at Shivapuri National Park after a few hours of trek. The trip passes with the heritages of Tamang and Sherpa that welcome you with warm culture. There is terraced farmland that provides you an insight into the traditional farming of Nepal. Farming and cattle rearing is the major occupation of local people residing in the villages. Similarly, you may climb to Kyanjin Ri or Cherko Ri for panoramic views. It dominates the valley at a height of 7234 meters. You can also go through the Hyolmo villages of Helambu. On top of that, there are the giant Himalayas that add beauty to nature. The valley is home to many rare animals of Nepal such as the Red Panda and Snow Leopard.
On the way, you will be observing Mt. Langtang Lirung, Mt. Ganesh, Dorje Lakpa, etc. This trek is an easy choice and includes a very minimal cost compared to other treks. The villages provide you the knowledge of the unique culture and tradition of the Sherpa and Tamang communities. The valley is also well-known for its cheese factory. It is made from Yak’s milk. Similarly, Kyanjin Gompa is an important religious landmark. People residing here mostly follow Tibetan Buddhism. A representative from our office will pick you from the airport after you arrive in Kathmandu. He/She will take you to our hotel. In the afternoon, we may visit the office or take a rest if you are too tired. You will also be provided a welcome dinner hosted by our institution. You will be served authentic Nepali cuisine that tells you the Nepalese culture. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
We will start a guided tour to several historical attractions in Kathmandu. They are also scheduled as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will get an opportunity to visit the historic Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath (commonly known as sacred Hindu temple) the Swayambhunath, and Bouddhanath, etc. Bouddhanath is said to be one of the major stupas in the world. At noon, you will get your equipment checked by the climbing leader. We will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
We will be taking an early morning breakfast. After that, an hour’s drive will take us to Sundarijal which is the starting point of the trek. After arriving at Sundarijal, we will begin our trek to Chisopani. It will take about four to five hours. We will come across a small hydroelectric plant. The path further takes us to Shivapuri National Park. We can also have a short break at Mulkhara which is mostly inhabited by Tamang and Sherpas. We need to walk through the dense forests of oak and rhododendron to reach Chisopani. The overnight stay will be there.
On this day we will be heading towards the north of the Himalayas. This route gives beautiful views of the snowy peaks. We climb above on a steep path. It is mostly covered by fir and rhododendron forests. There are no such permanent settlements. The sunrise viewpoint from Chisopani is magnificent. We head our journey to Khutumsang after breakfast. It takes about five to six hours. We will be continuing our decent trek enjoying the magnificent views of the Langtang Mountains. After arriving at Pathi Bhanjyang, we further trek to Gul Bhangyang and trek to another pass. Another downhill trek takes us to Kutumsang.
Today we will be seeing a different culture and lifestyle. This 5 hours trek and finally we reach the fascinating Melamchi village. It is inhabited by Sherpa people however they are different from the other one residing at Sholukhumbu. The village has interesting Buddhist Stupas and monasteries that have been visited by Guru Rinpoche. We will trek up to Tarkeghyang passing through Sherpa settlements. We will also discover the ancient monasteries of this region. Our journey for today stops as we reach Tharepati. The overnight stay will be there.
Today we will not be gaining much altitude. You will be observing the stunning sight full of dense forests, streams, waterfalls, etc. We will cross through many small villages. They provide us knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism. We will be arriving at the village of Ganguly. From there we will arrive at Sermathang. It is a beautiful settlement with a few Buddhist monasteries. Finally, we arrive at Tarke Gyang to stay overnight. However, we will be preparing for another day's trek to Sermanthang.
On this day, we will be traveling uphill along a dirt road. You will be walking through the forests to reach the settlement of Sermathang. The route is a steady ascent through the forest until you reach your destination. Once you reach the town, you will notice several important things. There you will see few monasteries as well as impressive views of the Dorje Lhakpa peak and the Panch Pokhari lakes. Similarly, you will get the opportunity to catch the glimpse of Jugal Himal which is towards the northeast. You will stay in a comfortable hotel at night.
Today, we will descent from Sermarthing to Melamchibazzar. Here the Melamchi Khola and Indrawati Khola join. The path drops down through Thimbu. You can go for a food hunt and try some other new experiences at Melamchibazzar. Our trekking journey ends from today. Our path drops down through Thimbu where you will meet the road. After that, you will find your ground transportation back to Kathmandu. From there, a quick bus ride takes us back to Kathmandu. If you are too tired, you can relax and celebrate the highly rewarding trek. We will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
On this day, we may also go for a short tour to Kathmandu valley as there are various important sites such as Patan Durbar Square, Hanuman Dhoka, Bhaktapur, etc. We will have a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful journey. The overnight will be at Kathmandu. You can buy some other essential items for the flight through Kathmandu if you want.
Our journey in Nepal comes to an end from today. Our representative will guide us to the airport about 3 hours before our planned flight. On our way home, we have an abundance of time to map our next adventure in the astonishing country of Nepal.
Trekkers will enjoy 3 hearty meals on each day of the trek. You will have breakfast and dinner at the same lodge where you will stay at night. You will be provided lunch at teahouses or small restaurants along the way. You can easily choose your favorite food from the menu provided to you. Our leaders will make sure that you are provided with the right foods. You will be given fresh and organic fruits. They may be brought from Kathmandu or locally sourced in the villages. Your diet will comprise complex carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. We may arrange vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and kosher diets with prior notice.
Many travelers also might think about who they are traveling with. You don’t have to worry about this. You will be traveling with compatible travelers from all around the globe. There is no such age limit for doing this trek. The only thing is you need to be healthy and have the willingness to trek. Your previous hiking experience, as well as mental fitness, counts a lot. You will be provided an experienced guide for a group of 1-5. However, for the group of 6-12 individuals, you will have 2 professional guides. The package consists of 2 porters for every 2 individuals. You need to pack your bags lightly because you will not be able to carry heavy loads along with the trek. You will not be able to enjoy your journey in the Himalayas unless you pack wisely. You will be sleeping in small lodges and tea houses during the entire trip. Please be prepared with the right clothes as per the season. It will get colder at the higher elevations especially during winters. The trek is considered a beginner level trek. Therefore, it requires no prior experience. Anyone with good mental and physical health conditions is eligible to trek. The trek is ideal for families, kids, and even elderly people. You will be given a brief informative session before the start of our trip. The session will provide you information on everything that you need to know about the location.

The food is usually our conventional Nepali lunch which is Dal (lentil Soup), Bhat (Boiled Rice), Veggies and Achar (pickle). You may taste local or seasonal fruits available in the villages as per your wish.
Yes, the trek is fixable. We can definitely continue to other trekking as per guest request. However, visit to other trekking sites may include additional charges.
